Track a South African passport or ID application from the USA
VFS tracking: use the "Track your application" option in the menu of the VFS Global South Africa USA site[source]. The October 2025 VFS presentation hosted by SA Chamber USA named visatracking.vfsglobal.com/Global as the tracking walkthrough [source], but that address returned "404 Not Found" when we checked on 21 Oct 2026, so we do not link it.
Collection: DHA says that from 1 November 2025 service centres offer optional secure courier delivery to an address you choose [source]. Centre hours include collection times [source].
Embassy applications: follow up on status through the Home Affairs contact centre at hacc@dha.gov.za. Send your prepaid collection envelope only once the Embassy tells you the document is ready (postage not less than $10) [source].
Los Angeles Consulate: to have a passport returned by post, bring a prepaid self-addressed USPS or UPS envelope; FedEx is not accepted [source].
Expected timing varies by source: six to eight weeks (VFS), 8 to 12 weeks or up to 2 to 3 months (SA Chamber webinar summary), at least 6 to 8 months (Embassy) [source, source, source].
